IGET-Net membership presently consists of South African, American and Caribbean educators; school administrators; educational psychologists; researchers and scholars; community leaders and parents dedicated to helping classroom teachers recognize and nurture the exceptionalities of culturally diverse gifted learners. Our network is an offshoot of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) School of Education teacher education program elective, “Education of Culturally Diverse Gifted Learners,” taught by co-founders Visiting Professor, Dr. Joy M. Scott (University of Wisconsin) and Wits Department Chair and Professor, Dr. Ruksana Osman.
IGET-Net five co-founders, members and colleagues team together to identify schools that lack the necessary resources to appropriately provide for the needs of children with high potentials and abilities in various domains (intellectual, academic, creative, leadership, etc.) Our non-traditional approach borrows from the best practices and programs that have been successful for decades with economically disadvantaged, culturally diverse and limited English proficient gifted learners in the United States. Iget-Net is international because we have as a mission to share our program and services globally where there is a high need for teacher development in areas of gifted education.
